What's the point of a baby monitor if you have a healthy baby?

I have an average size house and when you are not upstairs or in the living room directly at the bottom of the steps you can not hear him crying, since we never spent our time upstairs or in that living room because it is a formal one we wouldn't hear him crying. It was a very practical piece of baby gear.
