Breeders: Price Negotiation?
I would make them give vet references-so you know they will take care of the puppy. I would screen them, and ask if you can keep in contact with them. Make sure they know that you will answer any questions, to help them out. Are they haggling because they don't have any money? Because puppies cost money, especially if they get sick-which no one ever knows if they will. Our dog is 5, and has Cushing's Syndrome. We are reliable, responsible, and loving pet owners. She's a pomeranian. And we are doing whatever we can, to help her. It is an expensive disease. If these people are honestly responsible, and loving. And you know the puppy will be loved and cared for, it is up to you. I would make sure (since they are haggling), that they have the money for: vet visits, shots, illnesses(if any ever occur), food, grooming, training, etc. You can tell them about the breed, to insure they know the important things such as: grooming, shots, temperament, etc. I think it is more important, that the dog grows up loved and taken care of. You have met these people, so I guess it would depend on your instincts with them. No one can tell you that their financial future is guaranteed. And in this case, you can offer to take the dog back-if anything should happen. So that you know it doesn't end up neglected. You don't necessarily have to have a lot of money to own a dog. Just enough common sense, to make sure it gets help if it is sick, or a new home if for some reason something happens where they can't properly care for it.
