What is the best way to "coach" my boss?

My boss is great, but has a couple of rough areas that I think he could improve on that would really help him and our company be more effective. We have a great relationship, but I'm still unsure how to broach the subject, because it may come off as severe if taken in the wrong way. What's the best way to coach your boss?
